A Bioblitz is an effort to record as many species as possible within a designated space and period of time. The Great Southern BioBlitz is an opportunity for all Southern Hemisphere countries to record organisms during Spring and showcase our beautiful biodiversity to the world. The event is run by a grassroots network of keen citizen scientists from across the globe.
The Border Ranges Richmond Valley Landcare Network in partnership with the Biodiversity Conservation Trust is hosting a BioBlitz event at a spectacular conservation property in the Mackellar Range from noon to noon over the 28th-29th October.
The host property features a number of habitats, including sub-tropical rainforest, dry rainforest, and dry sclerophyll forest and offers rich biodiversity. This event will involve camping, with some limited facilities.
Survey activities, led by a team of experienced ecologists and land managers will include:
Botanical surveys
Night-time spotlighting
Audio recording of frog and other species
Setting trail cameras
Small mammal trapping
Dawn bird survey
This event will explore a range of methods and equipment used in survey work and share how these can be applied to your own citizen science ventures.
Participants will need to byo food and camping equipment.
